An engineer who translates

I’m Jo Fernwood. I trained as a mechanical engineer, and I translate technical documentation from German into English for machine builders.

I work alone, and I translate only one kind of document: the operating manuals, maintenance instructions, specifications and safety notes that go with machines.

My engineering training means I read a German manual the way the engineer who wrote it intended. I understand what the machine does, so the English describes it correctly, and your own engineers spend less time reviewing it.

I work with technical writers and documentation managers at small and mid-size machine builders in Germany who sell abroad. Each client’s terminology is kept and used on every job, so the same parts carry the same names across all their manuals.

The service is entirely online. You email the documents; I send back the English.
